Yankton Medical Clinic, PC | Examiner | Spring/Summer 2025

‘I found a unicorn’ “I made a trip to Niobrara [State] Park and started having shortness of breath and raspy breathing. We drove over to Yankton Medical Clinic, who had a Dr. on call. I was thoroughly evaluated within 20 min. by Dr. Pietz, who noted a heart murmur (never picked up before). Over the next 2.5 hrs., I underwent numerous tests and procedures. I ended up in Dr. Irwin’s office, who along with Dr. Pietz accurately diagnosed me with mitral valve prolapse. Dr. Irwin left the room for 5 min. and returned to tell me I had an appointment next week with a highly reputable heart surgeon in my hometown of Omaha. Not only did I somehow land in a well-trained cardiologist’s office, but Dr. Irwin took a lot of time to explain everything to me in understandable language. He’s even a cardiologist with a decent sense of humor. I guess you could say I found a unicorn. I’m now a few weeks out of open-heart surgery and feeling great. I am extremely fortunate to have found Yankton Medical Clinic.” —verified Rater8 patient Remembering meant everything A patient called to express her gratitude and sincere appreciation for the nurses who cared for her in the Ambulatory Surgical Center. She stated they were extremely caring and were with her through the whole process. The one thing she was most grateful for was that the nurses remembered her and her husband. Her husband had recently passed, which the nurses were unaware of, but they sat with her and cried with her and were so extremely caring and empathetic in that moment. She explained that “our greatest fear is that we will not be remembered when we pass,” so the nurses remembering her husband meant everything to her. She also stated that she had a similar experience with Scott Weber, DO, and Spencer Ferrell, MD, where they also sat with her and remembered her husband, which were priceless moments for her. She said she had been a part of many other health care organizations throughout the country, and Yankton Medical Clinic delivers top-notch, second-to-none care. She concluded that we should be extremely proud of the quality of care that our team delivers daily. —verified patient call Exceptional patient experiences are Yankton Medical Clinic priority The culture of Yankton Medical Clinic is to create exceptional experiences for our patients, who have entrusted their health care journey to our clinic.
