Dr. Willman, who serves as Associate Dean of SSOM Yankton Campus and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Pediatrics Department, was nominated by several medical students. The students say that Dr. Willman exemplifies the true meaning of the Kindness Initiative. According to USD SSOM’s website: “The Kindness Initiative integrates kindness into education, culture and strategy, recognizing it as a crucial element in healing and happiness. A hooding ceremony is a part of the commencement or graduation process where a faculty member, mentor or family member places a doctoral hood over the graduate’s head, symbolizing the completion of their advanced degree. The ceremony signifies the graduate’s readiness to enter the medical profession with advanced skills and knowledge and formally recognizes their achievement.
